Top Hotels & Areas for 2025
Planning a holiday to Florida’s gorgeous island? Then you’ll definitely want to check out this guide on where to stay in Sanibel Island!
I’ve done lots of research and found the most incredible hotels for tourists, which I included below, in a categorized list from most to least expensive. You’ll also find a quick area overview in the beginning, where you can learn more about the neighborhoods on Sanibel island.
NOTE: Some of these hotels are temporarily closed as people work to rebuild the island after the hurricanes from the last years. Although most beaches and local businesses are open now, there are still some who are working on re-opening. So don’t worry, you can still visit Sanibel now and enjoy its incredible shores.
Pssst: definitely book your hotels in advance. Since there are only a few that have opened, everyone will be in a hurry to secure their spot.
Quick Picks for Your Stay
Here are some of the best Sanibel Island hotels, for those who want to book as quickly as possible:
Overview of the areas
Before we jump to see all the incredible hotels on the island, let’s check out the main areas (see the map above).
If you’re traveling here for the first time, there’s no better place to base yourself or explore, than East Sanibel Town. This is where you can try lots of water sports, chill on the best beaches like Lighthouse Beach Park or Northern Beach and visit some incredible attractions like the Sanibel Lighthouse.
PRO TIP: Beaches tend to get busy pretty fast here, so if you want to secure a good spot I’d recommend heading there early in the morning.
Another great area is Kinzie Island, which is a bit more tranquil and perfect for those of you who want to relax during your holiday.
For those who are traveling with their families, I’d recommend the Middle Gulf Drive area, which is next to a golf course and some shops.
NOTE: There is no public transportation on Sanibel Island. I’d recommend getting around by bike (you can rent one on the island) since there are 25 miles (40 km) of bike paths on the island or you could rent a car, but beware that parking tends to be limited and pretty expensive.
