I visited the Isle of Skye a while ago and fell head over heels in love with the place! I also learned lots of things on how to best visit the island and which are the top areas. 

Below you’ll find a list of the main towns on the island plus a long list of hotels for all budgets, ordered from most to least expensive. 

I’d recommend booking your hotels here in advance, the island is super popular and it gets lots of tourists all year round. That’s what I did when I went and I was so happy to secure my spot early, even if I traveled during the low season as the prices were increasing the closer I looked to my travel dates.

Where to stay in Skye

Below you’ll find a map with the main towns in the Isle of Skye and a list with a short description about each place!

NOTE: If you’re renting a car you’ll have the freedom to book any hotel, no matter how remote (just bear in mind that during the summer when Skye gets packed with tourists it’ll be pretty hard to find a parking space, especially in Portree). But if you’re not renting a car I’d recommend staying in Portree, as that’s the main town with bus connections to other places on the island.

With a fabulous location in Portree, just a 10 min walk away from the city center, this amazing hotel offers some incredible waterfront and hill-side views! The rooms have a modern design, simple yet chic furniture and all the amenities you need.

Start your mornings here with a yummy breakfast at the on-site restaurant or order up some room service if you just want to spend a lazy morning in bed. The accommodation also offers free parking. 

Broadford Lodges Skye –  great hotel for families

You’ll never want to leave this luxurious award-winning hotel! Located on Skye’s southern Sleat Peninsula the hotel (which is housed in a former hunting lodge) comes with breathtaking loch and mountain views and an AA Rosettes restaurant. 

With super stylish decor, the accommodation has spacious rooms that overlook the sea or that have a terrace where you can relax. Start your mornings with a delicious breakfast at the on-site restaurant and then get ready to explore the island and visit attractions like the Fairy Bridge in Waternish and the Old Man of Storr. 

Monkstadt 1745 Lodge – for a relaxing getaway

I just love the room decor at this hotel located in Monkstadt! Boasting four-poster beds, flowery wallpapers and bathrooms with a large tub where you can relax after a day out, this one is surely a keeper!

The accommodation also offers an outdoor hot tub, a restaurant that serves local cuisine and a lounge area where you can sit, enjoy some tea, along with a good book on those rainy days where there’s nothing to do but get cozy inside! 

Skeabost House Hotel – great for history lovers

Housed in a gorgeous white-washed Victorian building, this luxurious boutique hotel is an amazing spot for those who like history. The hotel, which is located a 10 min drive away from  Portree has its own private grounds and it overlooks Loch Snizort. 

Here you’ll find different rooms, lodges and suites set in the garden that have a furnished patio. All the rooms are beautifully decorated with modern furnishings and they’re equipped with everything you need! The hotel has an on-site restaurant that serves local island cuisine and a bar where you can enjoy some drinks (I’d definitely try the Scottish whisky)!

Mid-range (from US$150 to US$300)

Marmalade – offers a great location

Set in a grade “B” listed building that dates back to 1817, this gorgeous hotel in Portree will make your holiday even more amazing! Their rooms have stylish furnishings and large windows that overlook the stunning Isle of Skye scenery. 

For those traveling with a car, you’ll be happy to know that the hotel offers free parking. Each morning you can enjoy a delicious buffet-style continental or a cooked Full Scottish breakfast. 

House of Juniper – with some amazing spa facilities

Located in Broadford this amazing hotel is perfect for those of you who want to relax and enjoy some spa facilities during this holiday! Here you can use their sauna and hammam, which I’m sure will feel heavenly after a day of hiking and being in the great outdoors. 

The rooms are simple yet super cozy and all come with a private bathroom, a flat-screen Tv and some even with some amazing garden views. At the hotel, you’ll also get to enjoy a continental breakfast.

Greshornish House Hotel – with a cozy atmosphere

This Edinbane is super cozy and it boasts the most amazing rooms with four-poster beds and tartan decors, vintage furnishings, a private bathroom and windows that overlook the lush greenery!

The hotel also comes with free parking, a restaurant and a bar. You definitely have everything you need for your stay here!

Located in Teangue, on the West coast of Skye is perfect for your holiday as it offers some amazing rooms with garden views, a seating area, a private bathroom and a flat-screen Tv so that you can enjoy movie nights after a day of outdoor adventures.

You’ll also find a lounge area where you can relax by the fireplace while drinking some tea or maybe something a tad stronger, like whisky! There’s also an outdoor seating area that overlooks the lush grounds.

While here, guests can relax in the outdoor hot tub or in the picnic area. Breakfast is included in the costs and each morning you can enjoy some yummy food before you start exploring Uig and the rest of the island.

The Old Inn – where to stay on Skye for families

The Portree Hotel – perfect for those without a car

With a fabulous location right in the center of the small town of Portree, the island’s “capital” this accommodation is great for those who don’t have a car and want to stay as close as possible to the restaurants, bus stations and stores.

Originally built in 1875, the hotel has family rooms and a restaurant with a bar where you can also listen to some live music during the weekends!

Coolin View – affordable place in central Portree

Housed in a building from the 1920s right near the center of Portree, this simple yet affordable accommodation is also great for those who don’t plan on renting a car
