Barcelona’s newly opened Museum of Ideas and Innovation is amazing. This new centre for inspirational designs and inventions, is a creative and fun place for children and family of all ages. The Museum is divided into five collections including a corner for useless but entertaining inventions. There is also a Limitless Society collection you’ll find new ideas from individuals as well as companies and if you’re looking for fun and practical check out the Reflectionarium. There’s also a lower level with other exhibits so don’t forget to check that out. Home to the Black Virgin Mary, Montserrat is both a cultural and active day trip, just an hour outside Barcelona. Listen to the renowned boys’ choir sing at mid day while visiting the Monastery and the cave and hiking amongst the gorgeous flora and fauna. This is an ideal day trip if you want to get out of the city for a few hours and kids love it. It’s only 40 minutes by car, so not too far and the mix of hiking, culture and being atop a mountain, is quite alluring for youngsters. What’s a trip to Barcelona without taking a stroll down La Rambla. This vastly famous walkway is one of the most popular stretches in Europe as well as the world. Starting at the the Colon (Christopher Columbus Statue) by the beach, it goes until Plaza Catalunya dividing the Old City with the Gothic Quarter on one side and the Raval on the other. At the very top is the Eixample neighborhood, where the city expanded at the end of the 19th century. If you’re looking for an entertaining and fun stroll, La Rambla won’t disappoint. Featuring everything from street performers, to merchants selling books, art, portraits and even animals, this is a top Barcelona attraction. Just be sure to keep your purses closed and pockets zipped as it’s also a haven for pickpockets.

Few places offer city views like Montjuic. The name literally means ‘Mountain of The Jews’ and is a former military base in Barcelona. Check out the Terrace nightclub, especially during summer as there’s always cool and fun events featuring well-known dj’s. This zoo is located in Parc de la Cuitadella. There are over 7,000 animals, none of which are caged. Rather, they are separated from viewers by a moat. There are aquarium shows with dolphins and whales most afternoons. The Zoo is home to the world’s only captive albino gorilla, Copito de Nieve, which means snowflake. There are over 500 species in the Zoo thus providing for plenty of eye candy for the kids and a wonderful learning experience as well. The Zoo is inside the Park, so once you’re done you can have a picnic or go for a bike ride.

Another amazing Gaudi creation that gives the visitor a good view of the city. The site is a mixture of architecture and nature exemplifying the architect’s greatness and the beauty of the city it overlooks. Gaudi’s Park is not only wonderful for a quick history and art lesson, but it brings the stories to life with the over the top designs that are Antoni Gaudi. The park is ideal for children in that it has a mix of grassy areas to run and play as well as cool architectural fixtures to gawk at, take pictures with and play on as well. In addition to the Park, the Gaudi Experience, at the bottom of the hill has recently opened with an exciting ride through the architect’s life as well as hands on touch screens to play with afterwards.

Experience one of Barcelona’s most charming parks in the Old City. Fused with a mix of architecture and grassy areas, Ciutadella is not only a nice place to throw a ball, practica yoga or go for a bike ride, but it has a man made lake with Swans, which are fun for the kids to feed and plenty of ping pong tables and areas to picnic if you’d rather not sit on the grass. The Citadel was built on this site in the 1700’s. After its fall, the fortress was turned into a park in the 19th century and today is one of the city’s most popular areas to exercise and enjoy a day in the sun.
