Old Town is the best area to stay in Hoi An, Vietnam as that’s where you’ll find most of the main attractions and some fab hotels! However, if the ancient city isn’t what you were looking for, just scroll down and you’ll find all the other neighborhoods.
I highly recommend booking your hotels in Hoi An in advance, as the good ones always sell out first!

1. Old Town – where to stay in Hoi An for the first time
Exploring the Old Town of Hoi An, which is also known as the Ancient City, will feel like you’ve time-traveled back to the 16th century!
The UNESCO World Heritage Site is so well-preserved that it almost looks like an open-air museum! The iconic architecture, the market stalls (map) and all the other elements make Hoi An the top place in town!
NOTE: In order to visit and stay in the Old Town, you will have to get a ticket which is usually valid for 10 days and costs around US$7.
The best way to see the Old Town is to just walk around its colorful streets and stop around all the places you like!
One of the most iconic attractions that you should see while here is the Chùa Cầu Pagoda, the Japanese Bridge (map) which dates back to the 18th century. You also shouldn’t miss the Buddhist Temple of Pháp Bao (map), the Old House of Tan Ky (map) which also dates back the the 18th century and has lots of antiques, the Hoi Quan Phuoc Kien place of worship (map) and the Precious Heritage Art Gallery Museum.
You’ll also find plenty of restaurants and cafes, where you can indulge in some delicious Vietnamese dishes, like The Hoianian (map).
NOTE: The easiest way to arrive in Hoi An is by flying to the Da Nang Airport which is 30 km (19 miles) away and from there get a taxi or a bus to reach Hoi An.
The Old Town has mostly small hotels, inns and B&Bs and if you want to stay here then know that it can get pretty loud especially if you are near the market or a big attraction!

Just across the Thu Bon River from the Old Town, you’ll find An Hoi Island, which is linked to the mainland by the An Hoi Bridge (map).
Perfect for those who want to enjoy Hoi An’s nightlife, this little island is packed with bars and restaurants!
One of the must-do things in An Hoi is to go to Hoi An Night Market (map) where you will find a lot of street food, souvenirs, and clothes. It is also super Instagrammable so you can snap some memorable pictures here!
Spend your days exploring the busy streets of An Hoi and check out all the restaurants around! Some really great ones are the Pause and Enjoy Restaurant (map) and QQ restaurant Hoi An (map).
The main attraction here is the Hội An Lune Center for the Performing Arts (map) where you can catch some amazing dance shows!
Once the sun sets, head to the Night Market, or check out some of the bars around! Why Not Club Bar (map) is a great one to start the night!

3. Cam Pho – where to stay in Hoi An for those on a budget
Budget travelers, this section is for you!
Welcome to Cam Pho, an area located just a 15 min walk away from the Old Town and a 10 min walk away from An Hoi.
Perfect for those who don’t want to pay too much for accommodation but still be close to the attractions, Cam Pho saves all tourists with its wide range of hotels (especially during high season when everything sells out).
Although you won’t find any major attractions in Cam Pho, there are plenty of local shops, cafes and some unique buildings.
While in the area, you should definitely check out the Cam Pho Temple (map) which apparently is so old that there is no record of exactly when it was built. The temple is an important gathering point for the community and it reflects the history of the area.
Another cool thing you have to see here is the Phung Hung Old House (map), a historic home that has been preserved with its original furniture so you can get a glimpse of how people lived back in the day in Vietnam.
Once you’ve seen all of Cam Pho, just take a quick walk to the Old Town and start visiting the ones there!

4. Cam Chau – where to stay in Hoi An for relaxation
Looking for a quiet neighborhood with a calm atmosphere in Hoi An? Then Cam Chau may be the place for you!
Located 3 km (1 mile) southeast of Hoi An Old Town, Cam Chau is an amazing (and pretty big neighborhood) filled with rice paddies! It also offers easy access to the beaches, so if you were hoping to hit the beaches, definitely check out this area.
A great way to explore this laid-back area is to rent a bike and just go and explore! You’ll get to admire the rice paddies, the sea views and stop for a quick swim or sunbathing sesh!
As I mentioned, the area is pretty big so you’ll also find lots of restaurants, cafes and yoga studios too! Rosie’s cafe (map) is a great spot to start your mornings, as is Nourish Eatery (map) which is a bit closer to the Old Town.
By the way, if you still want to explore the main attractions in the Old Town, I recommend staying in the part of Cam Chau which is right at the border with the Ancient City, so that you can just walk there!
They have some really cute attractions here like the Tra Que Vegetable Village (map) which is basically a local garden that you can visit. Right near it, they have a lovely restaurant called Baby Mustard (map), where you can enjoy some delicious organic food.

5. An Bang Beach & Cua Dai Beach – best for beach lovers
Want to spend all your days chilling on the beach, sipping cocktails and swimming in the sea? Then this place is for you!
I coupled these beaches together as they’re right next to each other and offer the same things in terms of hotels, attractions and bars.
Both are located 7 km (5 miles) away from the Old Town and the best way to reach it would be to rent a bike.
You can also use public transport but it’ll take you like 3h to get there. Some easier ways to get around Hoi An are by taxi or tuk-tuk.
That’s why I’d recommend staying here to those of you who are spending more than a few days or those who’ve been to Hoi An before and already seen the central areas.
Spend your days here relaxing on the beach, swimming and hitting all the bars and restaurants! There are lots of places that serve yummy seafood like Hon Restaurant (map) and also some cool beach bars like Esco Beach Hoi An Bar Lounge (map).
